Greetings from Chicago! The last few months of our lives have been the beginning of a story of love,grace,forgiveness, blessing and returning good for evil.
This past Sunday, Dec. 7, we moved into our apartment in Chicago. We left our home in Tucuman on November 12. After traveling to Buenos Aires by bus we flew to Houston on Nov.14. We were met there by Dick's brother John and his wife Donna. We had a nice visit with them. After a few days we drove (in a car that John found for us) to Kentucky to visit my mother,sister and her husband and spent Thanksgiving with them. From Kentucky we traveled to Michigan to visit Dick's parents and pick up furniture that we had stored in the house we are buying in Sparta. A friend helped us move the furniture to Chicago this past Saturday. We are so thankful for the help and support that so many people are showing us. We plan to be in Chicago for the 6 months of family leave. I probably have written our plans in a former post....
I'll write more later on how the Lord is working in our lives as we live out the circumstances that He has allowed. "In everything give thanks".

November news
Before we traveled from Tucuman to Buenos Aires on November 12 and before we stored, packed and prepared to travel, Dick visited the distance seminary students and met with the new area supervisors of the distance program in the Northwest. It is great to know that the distance seminary program is in the hands of such capable people.

Greetings from Buenos Aires! We arrived here yesterday morning after a 11 hour bus ride from Tucuman. We are on our way to Houston tonight, leaving from Ezeiza Airport at 11:50pm or so if all goes well. We plan to be in Corsicana, Texas with Dick's brother John until November 20 and then travel to Kentucky, Michigan, and arrive in Chicago the first week of December.
This past Sunday we had a fairwell service at Zona Oeste church. So many people expressed their appreciation for us and our ministry. It has been a sweet sorrow to say goodbye to such good friends as we begin our "family leave". I'll post some pictures of our last few days in Tucuman.

July,August and September happenings
Hello again from Tucuman, Argentina. It's been awhile since I've posted. Maybe you've noticed. :-) Since I wrote last I've reached the 50 year mark and passed it by a week or so. :-) I'll attach a few pictures in another post. We continue on with life and ministry here as we prepare to travel to the US in November for some time with family. I guess it's officially called "family leave".
In August Ben traveled from Indiana to visit us for about 10 days or so. It was great to have him here! He was here for Andrea's 16th birthday celebration. I can post a picture of that too. :-)
We "chat" online with Beth about once a week. She is happily involved with her Peace Corps work in North Africa. She's fitting right in with the people in the small town where she lives. Soon she will begin to teach some health education workshops at the local school.
This weekend Dick is visiting the distance seminary students in the Provinces of Salta and Jujuy. He also made a stop in Bolivia on this trip to visit an Argentine couple who are missionaries there. He's also been busy as part of the pastoral team at the Zona Oeste church, helping organize the leadership team, preaching, pastoral counseling and helping with a few construction projects at church.
Since I've written last I've started a new treatment for psoriatic spondylitic arthritis. Hopefully I'll be feeling better really soon! After 10 years of going to doctors and having them say they suspect I have MS it's finally very clear on the xrays that I have a spondylitic type of arthritis which includes the spinal column, tendons and joints. It's an autoimmune disease that has some of the characteristics of MS. I'd sure appreciate your prayers as I continue the injection treatment, physical therapy and exercise program. Thank you!

June 30 and July 1 were historic days here in Tucuman, Argentina! Seven Latin American presidents met here to discuss policies and how to work together for the betterment of Latin America. I downloaded the above picture from our local newspaper. The presidents of Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil are standing in front of the "Casa de Tucuman" the famous house where Argentina's Declaration of Independence from Spain was signed in 1816. Tucuman was the original capitol of Argentina in the 1800's.

Here's a picture of our two 5 week old kittens. We were adopted by a white cat about 6 weeks ago and she had these kittens in our backyard. We'd love to find a home for the white long haired mother cat. We're keeping the spotted kitten and giving the white one to one of Andrea's friends. Hopefully the new kitten will get along well with Michy Wichy, our gold and white cat. :-)

May News-conference in Puerto Iguazu, visit to distance seminary students and family news
Hello again from Tucuman! Since I wrote last Dick and I have been to Puerto Iguazu and back. We met with other field leaders in Latin America for five days. It was great to be with colleagues from Brazil, Venezuela, Uruguay and Argentina. Andrea stayed home with Barb, one of our missionary colleagues and friends. I've posted a few pictures of our time at Parque Iguazu. The falls really are incredible and very much worth the two day drive from Tucuman. :-)
This month Beth moves to the town in North Africa where she will be living and working. As of today she has finished her training time with the Peace Corps. She has made lots of new friends and is looking forward to her time in the new town.
Ben has finished his Junior year at Taylor and will be working for the summer. He would like to visit us here in Argentina in August. :-)
Andrea continues her studies and will be following the Argentine school year, with plans to finish her sophmore year in December.
Dick visited his distance seminary students this past weekend. His trip takes four days and he covers more than a 1,000 miles as he goes to the towns where his students live.
I'm waiting to see where we'll have interpersonal skills workshops this year and am planning to help with one that is going to be held in Montevideo, Uruguay in July.
We appreciate your prayers for our church here in Tucuman. This coming weekend we'll be having a Locreada (meal at church where the thick squash stew called Locro is the main course) on Sunday, May 25th, Argentine Independence Day. I hope to post some pictures of our time together. We plan to have a baptism and baby dedication and worship service after the noon meal.

Back in Argentina-February,March,April news :-)
Hello again, this time from Argentina! The third week of February Dick, Andrea and I traveled back to Tucuman and have been settling back into life and ministry here. We returned to Argentina at the end of summer in the Southern Hemisphere and are now busy with fall activities.
Family news- Ben continues his Junior year at Taylor and planning to work in the US this summer. In March Beth traveled to North Africa to begin her training with the Peace Corps. Right now our family is spread over three continents and when Dick travels to Bolivia, our family is in four different countries at the same time. It's quite a change for us as parents to have a daughter across the ocean for two years. Hopefully we can visit her sometime. We're thankful for internet phone calls, and online chat. :-) Another big change this year is that Andrea has begun her 10th grade studies at home via the University of Nebraska highschool program. She keeps up with friends that she went to school with here in Tucuman and is actively involved in youth group and helping teach a kindergarten Sunday School class.
Ministry news- Dick has begun his travels to visit his distance seminary students and his role as one of the four pastors at the Zona Oeste church. I've been helping with various ladies' activities here in Tucuman and helping with the planning of an interpersonal skills workshop in Montevideo, Uruguay in July.
I'll see if I can post a few pictures from the church retreat that was held the first weekend in March. Dick celebrated his 50th birthday during the retreat with a cookout for 60 people. We ate lots of great Argentine beef. :-)
We look forward to hearing from you. I hope to post more often now that we are back into our "normal" routine here.

Greetings from the USA
Happy New Year! We are here now in the USA and enjoying our time with family and friends. :-) We spent Christmas in Kentucky with my family and New Year's with Dick's family in Michigan. We've seen LOTS of snow in Michigan and have been braving the cold. When we left 94 degree weather in Argentina when we traveled to the US in December. We plan to return to Argentina February 20. Lots to do before then! We're missing our home in Tucuman but enjoy being here too. :-)
